(http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=12214) Posted by ThisGuileKillYa on 04:12:2001 07:58 AM: Dont laugh, dont laugh.. but I was just as much into the MK games as SF games. And I was really good at MK (aspecially 3) LOL So Im wondering.. everyone is talking about SF strategies and top tiers and traps and such. Anyone in here wanna chat a little higher level MK? Posted by Maximum Burst on 04:12:2001 08:01 AM: I am down for MK 1 and 2. I hated the series after that. Sorry but the game got real crappy after 2. 3 was the last decent one. I hope 5 goes back to the old school. Posted by ThisGuileKillYa on 04:12:2001 08:05 AM: 1 was classic. 2 was very fun. 3 and Ultimate 3 were the best. 4 made me wanna scrape out my eyes U think there will b a 5? That would b very cool. Who did you use in 1 and 3? Who was regarded as "top tier?" I have my own theories, but I wanna see what the top players from all around thought Posted by legbert on 04:12:2001 10:58 AM: yeah i played mk2-mktrilogy alot people dont realize that mk was once a pretty deep fighting game until mk4 that is, i actually have a combo tape from trilogy thats over an hour long Posted by psx2000 on 04:12:2001 11:13 AM: put me down o played them all 1-4 Posted by HyperViperSniper on 04:12:2001 11:25 AM: MK was one of my best games.. Kung Lao rules.. BTW this is in the wrong forum.. HVS Posted by Fakefist on 04:12:2001 02:05 PM: hmm. MK. I was so in hate w/ the first one, was fascinated with the second, obsessed with the 3rd, in confusion w/ the fourth. I didn't like the running at first in three, but after awhile, I learned to like it -it turned the game into pure aggression. It was also the first MK where there was some real differentiation between the character's normals, at least in appearance. My main problem with MK3 and the MK series in general, is that you *can't trade hits*, which means that priority is absolute -If I beat you by a little bit, I beat you clean. In a game where one hit will lead to a big fat life-draining combo, this will just not do, IMO. That, and the fact every character gets almost perfect anti-air via the uppercut... But other than those issues, I actually thought the game was quite fun. I remember watching this NASTY Kung Lao player who would open by running at you. If you did just about anything other than jump away, you'd take the seven-hit combo of doom (50%+ life). He was just disgusting with that guy. Posted by CgHuReInS on 04:12:2001 02:41 PM: I palyed tons of MK. But yeah, this thread is going to be moved. As for MK5, check out the webpage of Ed Boon, one of the 2 primary creators of the MK series: http://www.noob.com/mk/ Posted by The Prophet on 04:12:2001 02:58 PM: MK I consider myself to be one of the best MK players alive today. (Sorry I don't mean to overly boast like that, but I need to catch your attention.) Anywayz when this thread gets moved to General Discussion I will be happy to share my opinions (which can be looong and detailed) on any and every MK game. Where should we start...? The Prophet Posted by ThisGuileKillYa on 04:12:2001 03:05 PM: Man, I asked the moderators where to put this thread and I coulda sword they said here. If I was wrong.. sorry guys.. Anyway,... I loved MK1. it was the 1st fighting game where people near where I lived played it and there was good competition and I would lose on a regular basis. (They didnt have SF machines around there) I didnt freak out for the fatalities(except Sub Zero's) but I thought it was really fun. I remember the 1st time I saw it I thought it was Pit Fighter 2. MK2 was really cool, but I got more into 3 I thought running was the coolest thing! Like you said, pure aggression. And again, this was a game where some good ass playeres lived around the corner. And eventully, probably because fo obsession as much talent, I became unbeatable(Kabal, Cyrax, Sub, Smoke, Sektor). The Valle of MK3 if you will (prob not, but around here lol) As for the hit priority thing... I like hit trading better, but I think the absolute priority becomes just another element. Landing a jump kick w/ Smoke/Kabal was kinda like AHBx3, but so be it.. As for the antiair uppercut.. well, did take some timing to do right, but less so in 3(u have to b good to anti air w/ it in 1 and sorta 2). PSX2000... I played MK4 too. It's OK. You're not alone Posted by Fakefist on 04:12:2001 03:05 PM: Prophet: start w/ 3/trilogy, and give us yours top and mid tiers, w/ explanation. If your answers are insufficient you will be tortured. (They told me to say something like that in motivational speaking class. Pretty good huh ) And don't wait till it gets moved...or you will be tortured. Posted by MvC2Fighter on 04:12:2001 03:30 PM: Good Topic! Man I am just about to purchase an old MK2 cabinet here shortly. I really enjoyed playing 1 & 2, but after that I switched to the SF scene. But I do remeber playing MK3 for a little while with a pesky Sektor infinite. I don't know if it works on the home versions or the later versions in the arcade. Midway had this thing about always updating their machines with new revisions for glitches and such. Anyhow MK2 rocks. Later Posted by ThisGuileKillYa on 04:12:2001 03:50 PM: The thread has been moved.. sorry again. Fakefist.. I say anyone who considered themselves good at that put up their tiers(or at least top) in whichever MK we played Posted by Zero on 04:12:2001 03:53 PM: MK pro. Right here. The first step in mastering MK is to realize that: a) practicly ALL specials were worthless. b) throws reined supreme. c) sweeps and D+lk were your poking tools. d) Rayden is GOD! Mastering MK2 is as simple as picking Meleena and abusing the power of her Sai throw. Posted by Cpt.Cat on 04:12:2001 03:53 PM: ...? Posted by Hentai on 04:12:2001 04:48 PM: i hated 3 and everything after it, the last MK i played and liked was 2... 3 and 4 and whatever that crap in the middle was called seemed like crappy copies of KI to me. Posted by Xv Genjuro on 04:12:2001 04:55 PM: Ahhh, Not a bad topic. I used to be such a big fan of Mortal Kombat; Devoting all my time to the game. But Mortal Kombat should have really just stopped at Mortal Kombat 3 Ultimate. The new styled graphics that Mortal Kombat 4 showed maybe gave us something to awe about, But it took away the oldschool feel. I believe 100% that I was a Master, Going onto a Grandmaster, of Mortal Kombat. All the time I spent on the game paid off completely... But now, I forgot every skill... And yes, HVS, Kung Lao does rule. Posted by phillip on 04:12:2001 05:09 PM: dang, there's two topics like this. one in general and one in gaming. well, i posted in the gaming one. so you can read it there if you want to see it. Posted by SSJGouKi on 04:12:2001 06:18 PM: quote: Originally posted by ThisGuileKillYa 1 was classic. 2 was very fun. 3 and Ultimate 3 were the best. MK2 was the best one in the series. All other sequels after that sucked, all that MK3s "dail me up a combo" was lame. And please.. those fatalities in MK3 were the fuckin worst. Posted by JL tha Infamos on 04:12:2001 08:03 PM: I used to be a big fan of MK also. I didn't think that MK3 and MK4 were terible but they were dissapointing compared to MK2. If they make MK5 I would definatly check it out. Posted by .Just*a*Kid. on 04:12:2001 08:24 PM: OOOOHHHH Man. I was the MK GrandMaster...I used to just sit on the machines and get all these 18,19,20 year old kids really pissed at me coz they were being owned by a 13-14 year old. MK1 was great for it's Time and I'd say MK2 was the best of the series.MK3 was *alright* and by the time Ultimate MK3 came out,It was getting to be a bit much.Kinda Silly,I thought. My Favorite Charactors to play with were: MK - Scorpian, Sub Zero MK2 - Scorpian, Liu Kang, Raiden, Sub Zero MK3/UMK3 - Kabal, CyRax, Smoke (These might not be the best techinally,or whatever, but they were my favorite) But yea,By the time MK4 came out I really couldn't care less...I think I played it once...twice Tops. I'm interested to see what 5 will be like tho. And I like "The Grid" (which is sorta MK related), and the Sub Zero Game for PSX was kinda cool. Ok,I'm done. All times are GMT. The time now is 12:43 AM. Show all 22 posts from this thread on one page Powered by: vBulletin Version 2.2.4 Copyright © Jelsoft Enterprises Limited 2000, 2001.
